Chorus members self-fund all outreach concert and the chorus received no financial benefit as these are considered a gift to the community from the chorus. The chorus has been singing and performing under the moniker of the Portland Gay Men's Chorus since The group was founded in the spring of when three founding members, inspired by a performance of the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus, placed an ad in a local gay newspaper looking for potential members. Soon after, on June 19,the group sang in their inaugural concert at the
BGMC was founded on those same beliefs and we hope our concerts will be received in that spirit. As we left for Istanbul there was uncertainty about how turnout would be at our concert, after we were ejected from our first venue by the Turkish government. There was also uncertainty on how the Supreme Court would rule on the issue of marriage equality. By the end of our trip we would have the uncertainty of what to do when Istanbul Pride was shut down by Police as we gathered to march.
